She Ain’t Here

Music: Pat Metheny
Lyrics: Randy Phillips

Spring ain't here
and I've seen no sun anywhere
for so long
She ain't here
and since I fell from favor
all the green's gone

More than just a part of my world
Daylight fades to grey
drained all away
I lost my inspiration
If I only could compose the phrases
I would say I'm sorry

Spring ain't here
There's just some storm clouds brewing up
a dark day
She ain't here
since I let my eye wander
and my heart stray
I let her slip away
I've just been sidelined by
my own stupid mistakes,
If I could circle it back...

Maybe I'll
pen some sweet words write a
son-net or poem con-vince her
to for-give this fool,
Come Back Home

Spring ain't here
and every dull day's shadow is
a long night
She ain't here
Blindsided, stunned, I'm blinking
in the headlights

More than just a part of my world
If I could only find
that lyrical line
and some determination
If I only could compose the phrases
I would say I'm sorry

Spring ain't here
There's just a cold wind whipping through
a sad song
She ain't here
I took her heart for granted
and I did her wrong,
She knew it all along
and she was swept aside
by my stupid mistakes
If I could circle it back...

Then I would
pen some sweet words, bro-ken
hearted, alone, con-vince her
to for-give this fool
Come Back Home

INSTRUMENTAL

Spring ain't here
and so I must be dreaming
as she wakes me
Now she's here
and with her sweet forgiveness
she has saved me

So much more than part of my world
Sunlight through the rain, hear me again
declare my dedication
holding out my heart in both of my hands
as I say I'm sorry

Spring ain't here
but somehow swirls of daffodils
surround us
Wide eyed wonder how a shower of
cherry blossoms found us
They fall around us
I must've stumbled upon
just the right turn of phrase
because we're circling back...

Suddenly
twigs sprout with leaves/ fresh cut
grass scent-ed air /fields of poppies
ablaze/ bran-ches bud ev-ery-where/
wild wood plum trees in bloom/ vines are
burst-ing with grapes/ feel the sap
as it ri-ses/ she's
Come Back Home
